細胞鐵死亡（Ferroptosis）是一種鐵依賴性脂質過氧化物積累所引發的新型細胞死亡方式。鐵離子極大地加速了脂肪酸的過氧化反應，脂質過氧化物在鐵的調控下累計，這些脂質reactive oxygen species（ROS）超出細胞抗氧化系統的承受能力，氧化過程損傷胞內蛋白、核酸和脂質，導致細胞死亡。
常規細胞凋亡或壞死常常伴隨著細胞器腫大、染色質聚合、細胞膜完整性下降等特征，而細胞鐵死亡在細胞形態上引起的改變甚微，往往只伴隨細胞體積略微減小、線粒體膜密度增加等。
